SOURCES OF INCOME

BACKGROUND

'Sources of income' is the variable that classifies persons, income units, families and households according to the sources from which the unit receives income.

In practice, 'Sources of income' data are seldom used in output. They are of most interest in social analysis for identifying specific sub-populations of interest, such as all households receiving government pensions and allowances.

This document is intended to be read in conjunction with the standard for Total income which provides the detailed descriptions of the components of income and the standard coding. Also refer to the question modules used to collect income data.

Terminology used in this standard is defined in the Glossary (see Explanatory Notes tab).
